Straight from the Kop

Lallana tees it up for Coutinho, who slots it home! The Kop erupts! Anfield is sensing something great. The time seems to be changing.Return to UCL is now surely going to happen.

Rollback 8 years,it’s 2009.After coming agonizingly close to the title,Liverpool prepared to start again.Rafa then the manager, was already dealing with the blow of Xabi’s departure. The Merseysiders had a torrid season finishing 7th their lowest since ’99.The European adventure didn’t go as expected too.

2010-11 saw the club move ahead under a new manager Roy Hodgson.Couple of signings hardly made any difference as the Reds finished 6th.However the winter transfer window saw the club lose out on its fan favourite Fernando Torres to bitter rivals Chelsea.Club legend King Kenny was brought in for the sacked Hodgson who then signed a lesser known Ajax forward Luis Suarez.

It was the second straight year reds were absent from Europe’s elite competition.2011-12 saw the club lay hands to some piece of silverware.Kenny Dalglish’s side did bring back smiles with the league cup triumph but it was short lived.A lowly finish in the EPL even below their neighbours meant another long year without champions league beckoned. As expected Dalglish left.

Brendan Rodgers’ initial season was dismal.Again outside top 4 , something the Liverpool faithfuls were now getting used to gradually. But one could see a hero emerging, someone who had the calibre to do it all alone.2013-14 reignited hopes that Liverpool were back, two deadly finishers Luis Suarez and Sturridge to go with Steven’s finesse. The club almost brought back the title had it not been for some dramatic collapse.Ucl had returned.

Suarez departed. So did all the ambitions of resurgence. An early European exit.It was a flash in the pan.Mediocrity still hadn’t left the club.A gratuitous farewell to Steven Gerrard, fans were shocked. The time had come to say goodbye and cherish a glorious career.

“In an ever changing landscape, Gerrard was a pleasing constant.”

An energetic leader is now at the helm.Jurgen Klopp or the ‘normal one’ as he calls himself is taking Liverpool back to its glory days. The European giants look set to return.Years of patience, recklessness will be over soon.A fractious period that filtered the true Kopites. Not long, before the Kop roars again with its You’ll Never Walk Alone on a famous European night.
